Wow!
Wow - I'm not ready to dive into the 8 W's but I wanted to jot a bit about why I'm "Craftin' Green"! I love love love flipping through craft books at work and home to get ideas for projects I can do at work and home. My biggest complaint, and it's the same for cooking, is that I don't have the materials already on hand. But crafting with recycled goods, or upcyling as I heard it called today, makes that obstacle so much easier to overcome. And even if you don't have the stuff readily available you can usually get other to help you round up and save them until you have enough. I was at ILF's CYPD conference today and sat in on a session about Green Programming @ Your Library and I am so excited to get started on this project because many of the ideas I heard today are things I've already done and/or would like to expand on.

Craftin' Green sounds like lots of fun! I look forward to lots of great ideas.
ReplyDeleteBe sure you make a blog entry discussing those topics you considered but discarded... or should I say "recycled"... tee hee
Cassie, Crafting Green caught my eye. I like the idea of upcycling and look forward to following your progress.
ReplyDeleteCassie,
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in St. Louis I was a Girl Scout Leader. Through the leaders' meetings I found about a place that took donations from businesses, manufacturing and individuals of just about anything that could be reused like the thick cardboard tubes upholstery fabric is wrapped on, baby food jars and lids, styrofoam trays, it was a 'crafter's Goodwill'. I think it cost $3.00 per grocery bag. Ask a Girl (or Boy) Scout leader if there is anything like it near you. I know the teens in your programs will really like your upcycling ideas!

Cassie,
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of crafting green, however, don't feel as though I have the time to do so. I did find this website http://familycrafts.about.com/od/craftsbyproduct/a/trashcrafts.htm that has a lot of ideas about crafting green. I thought you might enjoy it as you continue to do some green craftin' Good Luck!
I'm looking forward to reading about your project. I have a friend who is a "Found Items" artist. It's very impressive how she creates such beautiful pieces out of recycled items...and somehow keeps them from looking like junk!
